Secant Piles

Secant Pile or Concrete Caisson Walls provide excavation support for deep excavations and / or a barrier for groundwater flow.  Most often specified in dense or cobble rich soils where other techniques are difficult to implement, we drill a series of intersecting large diameter (600 - 1500 mm) to the required depth and backfill with high strength concrete, or in the case of a barrier wall, a concrete-bentonite (plastic concrete) or other suitable mixture, to form a wall.  Individual piles can be reinforced with steel beams or steel reinforcement cages to provide the additional resistance to bending necessary for excavation support, with or without the use of anchors.  When the work is completed, the row of backfilled hoes forms a continuous barrier, limiting groundwater flow and retaining adjacent soils and structures.
