Intermediate Estimator

Pacific Ground Engineering has an immediate opening for an Intermediate Estimator to work with our Shoring and Ground Engineering Divisions.  The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

Estimating:

  • Coordinating and ensuring the timely submission of tenders and proposals for both the Ground Engineering and Shoring Divisions
  • Directing and completing quantity take-offs
  • Requesting quotes from suppliers
  • Development of work breakdown structures
  • Input of parameters into our Hard Dollar estimating software
  • Detailed scheduling of projects
  • Completion of risk assessments for bids
  • Contract review
  • Coordination of insurance coverages and bonding requirements
  • Mentoring and review of junior estimators and project managers
  • Submitting formal and informal proposals and tenders, and
  • Reporting on all of the above to senior management

Project Development:

  • Interfacing with existing and potential clients
  • Prioritizing and managing incoming bid opportunities
  • Responding to client requests for budgetary information
  • Monitoring upcoming opportunities and positioning the Group to respond to same
  • Following up on bid submissions
  • Networking within the local construction industry
  • Marketing the services of the Group to prospective clients, consultants and general contractors, and
  • Assisting with the development of materials suitable for divisional and corporate marketing

Skills and Attributes:

As a key member of a young and growing team, the successful candidate for this position will ideally possess a tertiary level qualification in Engineering or Construction related studies, and will have at least five years of experience working as an estimator in a construction related environment.  Working knowledge of Hard Dollar estimating software would be highly beneficial, but is not essential provided the applicant can demonstrate experience with similar crew-based estimating packages.  Experience with, and/or knowledge of a number of the construction techniques employed in Ground Engineering and Shoring would also be advantageous.  The successful applicant will possess a strong work ethic, be a team player, be innovative and have a strong desire to further their knowledge of the geotechnical construction industry.
